ISB has 2 new Members!

blogEntryTopperPupils in the Base were delighted to welcome two guinea pigs at the beginning of the Autumn Term.

Herbert and Humphrey are male rough haired guinea pigs and have taken up residence in a corner of the classroom in their two storey cage. They are handled daily and are getting used to all the attention from pupils and staff. Humphrey seems to be the boss and has become very vocal, especially when food is about. Herbert has wild hair and is quite shy.

We are planning to get them an outside run next year, so they will be on the grass outside the Learning Zone in the spring!

Skills Wales Roadshow

blogEntryTopperFifty pupils from Year 10 recently visited Venue Cymru for the Skills Wales Roadshow, to gain an insight into the support and advice that is available to help guide them. The visit enabled pupils to gather a wealth of information about available courses, apprenticeships, careers in the army and they also had the opportunity to speak to Careers Wales representatives.

On the day there were lots of activities for the pupils to take part in – cooking, simulator experiences, building and experiencing lots of new technology to encourage pupils to think about the right path to take in life. The photograph shows Mr. Whitfield and Tom Wilkinson sampling the challenge of tank driving!

YBE Open Evening 2015

blogEntryTopperOur October Open Evening for Year 5 and 6 parents and pupils was a huge success with hundreds of people coming along to see what we have to offer!

The theme for the evening was ‘Discovery’ and the school was organised into six themed areas of learning. Children and parents enjoyed getting involved in the many demonstrations and hands-on activities, including interactive games and handsets in Maths, making retro key rings in ICT/DT and making wonderful lava lamps on the space–themed English corridor! The Open Evening is always an exciting evening and staff and present pupils alike enjoyed the opportunity to showcase the many exciting learning opportunities available here at Bryn Elian.
